The Book of Ruth begins during the dark period of the Judges when Israel repeatedly cycled through rebellion, retribution, repentance, and rescue. Facing severe famine in Bethlehem, Elimelech chose to flee to Moab rather than trust God's providence. This decision led to greater tragedy as Elimelech and his sons died in Moab, leaving Naomi completely empty. God often uses hardships to turn hearts back to Him, and any path away from God ultimately leads to ruin. However, emptiness is never the end of God's story; it's often the beginning of his redemptive work in our lives.
